about the help centre

The Help Centre (THC), an agency of The Help and Legal Centre of Northumberland, is a small, non-profit organization, which is core-funded by Northumberland United Way.

For 40 years our programs and services have helped to:

  • Reduce the rate of poverty in our community.
  • Improve the living standards of the disadvantaged residents in our community.
  • Make sure the underprivileged residents have access to financial resources, have a stable place to live and have enough money to buy nutritious food.
  • Provide financial and housing relief to individuals who are experiencing precarious situations.

The Help Centre’s programs and services have a tremendous impact, and contribute to healing in our community. When an individual or family has financial and housing stability, they are able to spend more time and resources on medical care, nutritious food, transportation costs to and from work, and quality day care services.

During our last fiscal year, The Help Centre’s staff had more than 14,000 interactions (units of service) helping 6,000 clients. These are clients who visited our kiosk/service desk or who accessed our programs through the telephone, email, video platforms and appointments.
