Volunteer Opportunities

Community Volunteer Income Tax Return Program

Each year The Help Centre requires volunteer tax preparers to assist with our income tax preparation program.  People with experience in preparing basic electronic returns are needed.  If completing tax returns isn’t your forte, we also need individuals to assist with the collection of the personal data needed to complete a return.  A high degree of awareness of the need to protect client information is expected.   A police record check is required.

If you are interested in helping us to prepare taxes, please send an email to Patricia Orantes at patricia@thehelpcentre.ca with your contact information and a brief description of your experience and knowledge or call the Help Centre at 905-372-2646.

Partners in Learning Program

“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, what are you doing for others?” – Martin Luther King, Jr.

Did you know that xx% of adults in Ontario have literacy issues? The Partners in Learning Adult Literacy Program is looking for volunteers who are interested in helping adults to reach their goals and improve their quality of life by upgrading their skills in reading, writing, numeracy and workplace essentials.

We are seeking volunteers to be one-to-one tutors. The commitment is at least two hours a week. You don’t need to have a teaching background, as we will train and help you to become a basic adult literacy tutor.
