What is May Day?

Recognized on the first day of May every year, International Workers’ Day, or May Day, commemorates the struggles of workers around the world through the labour movements.

May Day has acknowledged and celebrated the achievements of the trade union movement. Some of the work toward this movement includes the establishment of employment standards, occupational health and safety legislation, and old age security.

International Workers’ Day is not just about recognizing the hard work of our workers globally, but it is also to reflect and see that the struggles still remain worldwide.

On May 1, International Workers’ Day let us remind ourselves to continue to stand behind our workers globally and in solidarity as we continue to organize, unite and fight for our workers.
